Although for the most part I am in the IM niche at the present moment in time, I’m always very wary of which programs I will promote to people. Before I will promote any type of “How To Make Money” product I have to completely believe it will help people along in their way to success, and not be a bunch of complete overblown hype. I would much rather promote some type of software product or something along those lines which I know will help people accomplish tasks in a more effective way. I like list building with viral list builders. While some marketers hate them, I think they have their place, especially if you’re a beginning marketer. Don’t tell anyone, but I still use them. I believe that many who don’t like them simply either don’t use them well, or they’ve used the wrong ones.

What’s a viral list builder? It’s simply a way to leverage your list building efforts. Basically, it uses existing subscribers and visitors to get more subscribers and more visitors. These are true set and forget advertising techniques, and they’re often zero cost.

If you want to make every visitor count, these tools can help you acheive that at no cost. Some viral list builders work on page, some work as popups, and some replace a page entirely, such as a thank you page. Before I continue, I want to be sure that you understand that zero cost is referring to money only.

Here are few practices to keep in mind:
1. First and foremost, think high concept: The viral ‘thing,’ whatever shape or form it takes, has to be highly provocative in some way. This, of course, is easier said than done, otherwise we’d all be drowning in these things. (And thank God we’re not.)

2. Work backwards from the headline: Think about what the headline of the blog entry - or the subject line of the email - about your viral marketing concept would be. Hint: if it won’t make a concise headline or subject line, then it probably won’t make a good viral marketing concept.

3. Keep it simple: You have to hook people fast, so don’t overburden your concept with too many elements or distractions. Your concept should be able to work when plugged into the following fill-in-the-blank sentence, “Hey, did you hear _____?”
